Jessica received her PhD from the University of Minnesota in the Department of Neuroscience in 2024 and is now a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Neuromodulation Research Center. She was awarded a fellowship via the Translational Neuromodulation Training Program, working with Luke Johnson to study sleep in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). Using neurophysiological recordings from Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) electrode implants, she is researching how brain signals change across different stages of sleep (Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep and non-REM sleep) and searching for biomarkers of sleep disruptions, such as nighttime awakenings, in those signals. Additionally, she is exploring the utility of current DBS therapies on sleep, with an overall goal of improving sleep therapies in PD.
